Venice has been described as one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in Europe. Boasting a number of visitor attractions and luxury hotels Venice has become a popular tourist getaway. Set in Northern Italy, culture and history combine to create an enigmatic atmosphere, with many hotel rooms in the city decorated in the Venetian style.

When visiting the city, although nice to relax in the hotel bar or restaurant, the culture and spirit of the Venetian population will entice the visitor to enter and explore their world. The celebrated Venice Carnival sees tourists flock to the city yearly to witness the re-enactment of 18th century Venice. Carnival originated as a means of expression and hiding of identity by wearing masks. The Italian Government decided to use the carnival tradition to reminisce the history and culture of Venice. The mysterious Venetian masks are hand painted and jewel encrusted, made in either leather or glass and as a souvenir of a trip, masks are available to buy from specialist sellers and shops throughout the city. Hotel guest services will be able to provide more information and locations.

Labelled the "finest drawing room in Europe" by Napoleon, the Piazza San Marco is the principal public square of Venice and unlike the majority of other public squares in Europe, no motorized traffic is allowed in the area. Originating in the 9th century and later expanded to its current shape and size in 1117, the Piazza is surrounded by historical buildings and characterizes the focal point of the city's waterway transport. With surrounding restaurants and luxury hotels Venice allows visitors to be in the heart of the city with limited urban noise.

The Basilica Di San Marco, situated at the eastern end of the Piazza, was founded in the 9th century to house the relics of St Mark. The honored icon of Madonna Nicopeia is just one of the many treasures inside the cathedral. The outside, created by the Byzantine court at Ravenna, is enhanced by domes and golden mosaics and as a result was once known as the Chiesa d'Oro, Church of Gold. Positioned to the side of the cathedral is Campanile di San Marco, the bell tower. Some hotel rooms have balconies or terraces with a view of St Mark's Bell Tower.

Canal Grande forms one of the major water traffic corridors in the city, with the majority of public transport provided by water buses, taxis and a tourist favorite, the gondola. Lining the canal are buildings, including a number of hotels, which date back to the 14th century, demonstrating the art of Venice. Until the 19th Century, only one bridge crossed the canal, the Ponte di Rialto. Earning both praise and scorn from critics and literature, the bridge has become one of the central parts of Venice and as a result on the first Sunday of September the Regata Storica, Historical Regatta, takes place. To commemorate the entrance of the Queen of Cyprus, Catherine Cornaro, a competition between Venetian boats takes place, observed by thousands from the banks.

Every year, celebrities and movie buffs descend on Venice for the annual Film Festival. One of the most prestigious and oldest film festivals in the world, the annual Venice Film Festival sees celebrities from across the world descend on the city. Presented by the likes of Quentin Tarantino, the coveted award Leone d'Oro, Golden Lion, is awarded to the best film whilst the Coppa Volpi, Volpi Cup is awarded to the best actor and actress.

Tradition is central to Venice, with the celebration of their patron Saint, St Mark, taking place every year on the 25th April. Celebrated as a public holiday which culminates in a gondola regatta and race, men are traditionally supposed to give their loved ones a bunch of flowers or long stemmed rose. Not only home to a number of visitor attractions and luxury hotels Venice is located in the Venetian lagoon containing a number of separate islands. Island excursions to areas such as Murana, famous for its glass arts and glassblowers and Burano, famous for its lace shops, can be organized. A number of hotels are situated on the separate islands with hotel restaurants showcasing a view of the lagoon. Venice has become one of the most visited cities because of its historical and cultural beauty.
